Introduction / History
Many businesses in Digby Co. were finding it difficult to fill postings and were unable to retain employees once hired. DC-SDI (sponsored by AVWAS & funded by Service Canada and the Dept. of Education, Skills & Learning Branch), interviewed over 250 individuals to determine what the barriers to employment were. The results of an employer & labour suvey demonstated that there was a significant gap between the perceptions of business owners and persons looking for work relative to what each perceive to be important and desirable employee attributes and benefits.
To address this mismatch an Employer Information Package was development and distributed to help employers in the recruitment and retention of employees by making the existing labour market more attractive. Click here for final Digby County-Skills Development Initiative report.
The overwhelming response from employers indicated that while EIP is a great foundation, more work still needs to be done. Research conducted during this project, revealed that employers who where Employers of Choice were able to obtain and retain employees more effectively, leading to business success.
EOCPI was developed to help empower employers to effectively recruit and retain employees through better understanding of what motivates their current and prospective employees.
